bakebook (“bakebook”, “we”, “us”) is a personal recipe development and storage app. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. By using bakebook you agree to this policy.
When you create an account you provide an email address and password, or sign in with Google or Apple. If you use a social sign-in, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Google Firebase) and are never stored by us in readable form.
bakebook stores the recipes you make and everything in them — names, descriptions, ingredients, method steps, notes, bake logs, categories, and any photos you add. This content is saved to your account in the cloud and cached on your device so the app works quickly and offline.
Our infrastructure providers automatically process standard technical data (such as IP address, device/browser type, and timestamps) to operate the service securely. We do not use this for advertising.
If you subscribe to bakebook+, your payment is processed by Apple through the App Store — we never receive or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status, so we know whether your account is active (premium) and can unlock the corresponding features. We also keep simple counts of your activity (for example, how many butter messages you’ve sent today) to apply fair-use limits.
When you chat with butter, or import a recipe from a link or photo, the relevant information — your message or the recipe content/image, along with the recipe context needed to answer — is sent to Anthropic (the makers of Claude) through our secure backend, so it can generate a response. Anthropic processes this to return the result. Per Anthropic’s API terms, this content is not used to train their models. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information to butter.
We do not sell your information, show you ads, or use third-party advertising trackers. We rely on a small number of service providers to run bakebook:
These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the app. Data may be processed in the United States.
Your content stays in your account until you remove it. You can delete individual recipes and photos in the app at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at bakebook26@gmail.com and we will remove it.
Access to your recipes is restricted to your own account through security rules, and data is transmitted over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
bakebook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may be highlighted in the app.

These terms govern your use of bakebook. By using the app, you agree to them.
bakebook is free to use. bakebook+ is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks additional features. It is offered at $4.99 per month or $44.99 per year (pricing may vary by region and is always shown in the app before you buy).
bakebook and butter are for baking, cooking, and food science. You agree not to use butter or the app to send or store hateful, harassing, or sexual content, or to otherwise abuse or disrupt the service. Messages to butter are automatically screened for this kind of content.
If a violation is detected, your first offense is a warning. Repeated or serious violations may result in losing access to butter and/or suspension or termination of your account. This applies to all users, including bakebook+ subscribers; if a paid account is terminated for a violation, the subscription is not refunded except as required by Apple or law.
butter is an AI assistant and can be wrong or incomplete. Its answers are for general help only and are not professional, medical, dietary, or food-safety advice. Always use your own judgment — especially for allergens, food safety, and anything you serve to others.
bakebook is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We may change, pause, or discontinue features, and we aren’t liable for any loss arising from use of the app, to the fullest extent permitted by law. It’s a good idea to keep your own backup of recipes that matter to you.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict of law rules.
